Greetings all,
I’m Nita Thompson, seen or heard around town, and known in the Sickle Cell and Health Community as a vocal, committed Sickle Cell, Blood, Marrow/Stem Cell, Cord Blood, Health Advocate.
Different people and organizations have been thinking about this same project, but recently I was asked to make a concert to benefit Sickle Cell. . Why not make a concert around sickle cell awareness, thus a Sickle Cell Awareness Benefit Concert? After all 2010 is the 100th Year of Sickle Cell, as recognized in the United States!
Just like we did before the first World Sickle Cell Day (WSCD), hardly no one knew about it, so we helped out by globally contacting people, offered suggestions. We wound up coordinating suggestions, building a website page for WSCD and hosting the first Global Online Marrow Drive for Sickle Cell!
Now it’s time again to help out. The Los Angeles benefit concert will help fund the Saturday, September 11th Stephanie Mulkey Annual Educational Seminar from 9:45 am - 4:45 pm at The Grand Long Beach Event Center, 4101 E. Willow, Long Beach, CA 90815 that the Sickle Cell Adult Support Group of Southern California is hosting. Any other funds would assist with World Sickle Cell Day items and activities from the African American Blood Drive and Bone Marrow Registry for Sickle Cell Disease Awareness, other organizations and projects in each city of state we visit.
Sickle cell is growing! Most people think Sickle Cell is just an African American/Black disease ~ WRONG!!!
